Since it seems to be missed, the point is that legitimate short line operators are what CAN make the legitmate railroads go and they can find the political support WHEN needed. That's "positive" - and promotes rail - what is the problem??
A lot of "industry followers" are passing around a lot of non-sense. Realistic people can get flippant.. The rest written is just "visible evidence" of world economics 2008..
A lot of branch lines serve territory that can't commercially support both the two lane system (automatic) AND rail. In that case the "gov't", which has all this money from somebody - apparently, could pay, but will they? Gov. Kulongowski is already talking his way out of it, must have something more pressing to spend it on.
Nobody wants to see Tillamook off the map. So train people should understand reality if they wish to actually change it.
