Missing Cab Car

Saw Amtrak Cascades #500 (Eugene-Seattle) Sunday morning passing through Chehalis, Wash. without its cab car. The train had a P42 leading, but the opposite end was open where the NPCU should have been. Does anyone know what were the circumstances that the cab car was left behind?
