I was trying to recall some of my favorite places in the Feather River Canyon area and while there aren't many trackside restaurants, two great places stand out in my mind. They are both in Blairsden (about 10 miles west of Portola on Hwy 70), right across the street from the UP main (Canyon Sub, former WP main) and basically directly across from where the former WP Blairsden depot once stood. One is a pizza place called Gumba's and the pizza if excellent. The other is a couple doors down called Grizzy Grill which has fantastic food. The view from Gumba's is slightly better and the tracks are about 10-15 feet higher than the street so when you look out you have to look up too. The siding at Blairsden is used frequently so it's not uncommon to see two trains meet there while you're eating.
For breakfast in Plumas County, nothing beats Morning Thunder Cafe in Quincy which is between Keddie and Portola (closer to Keddie). No trains actually in Quincy but definitely worth a stop. It's right on Highway 70 on the westbound one-way split through town toward the west end. Best biscuits and gravy ever!
