What's this? Great Northern's
EMPIRE BUILDER detouring through Vermont?
Here's a photo I took on April 14, 2014, ELEVEN YEARS AGO, in North Bennington, VT involving a special train operated by Clark Johnson, High Iron Travel and Iowa Pacific. This was in coordination with the excursion the previous day that ran over the Pan Am Southern route via the Hoosac Tunnel from Woburn, MA to Mechanicville, NY. At the conclusion of the excursion at Mechanicville, the train then made its way, without the Pan Am F units, to North Bennington where it tied up for the night. This photo was taken the following day before the train departed for Rutland.
You can probably count on one hand the number of times a full-length Budd dome car, with Great Northern heritage, paid a visit to North Bennington, Vermont. This may have been the one and only time.
