I kinda agree w/Hutch.
I grew up in West Mass in the 50's/60's. We lived in a basically union town; making taps, dies, other kinds of machine tools, hand tools, power tools, automobile brake shoes and so on. The kind of stuff that supplied industry and, at union wages, gave a worker a living wage (the funds to buy a 60 year old house, buy a used car, buy food, etc). In the 70's all this work went south to the "right to work" states. Coupla decades later, all this work went to Taiwan/China.
