A long long time ago these photos were posted here. But, the server I had then was shut down, so the links I had then were broken. Plus, I have added a lot more information. So, I hope resharing is okay.
SP 3100 "even", ALCo RSD15 DL600B on the Eugene hump. Eugene, Oregon Jun 21, 1974.
Reportedly (
sources) SP SP 3100 was built in September 1959, ALCo construction number 83483, as SP 4816 class DF-502. Leased in March 1960 to T&NO as 250. These were the last units added to the T&NO roster before the 1961 merger. Became SP 5160 in the 1965 renumbering as class AF624-1. In April 1972 reclassified to switcher Class AS624-1 and renumbered SP 3100. Retired and sold May 1978.
Oregon and Washington was a favorite destination as soon as I was old enough to drive long distances.
In the early 70's it was very interesting with ALCos, Baldwins and Cadillacs on the SP and many pre-BN painted units and ALCos on the BN. The SP gators were a favorite!
