In October 1979, I rode on Chessie System fan trip from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, MD and back. The locomotives, a pair of, GP40-2s were nice, but nothing special. What really made the trip enjoyable was the beautiful fall scenery of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the melodious horns.

It's been nearly 35 years, but I think the horns sounded something like what's on here:
