Reportedly (sources), according to Strapac's great SP compendium series, SP 3117 was built as ALCo demonstrator 628-3. It was purchased in Nov. 1964 and became SP 4872 SP Class DF-505. In the 1965 renumbering it became SP 7102 SP Class AF628-1 In November 1973 it was downgraded to switcher status becoming SP 3117 Alco C628, SP Class AS628-1. In Feb. 1980 it was sold and scrapped.
