I've got a question to throw out -- I've been around the UP Rotaries in the past (one was kept in my home town of Green River WY when I was growing up, used to clear a iron ore line up towards Lander as needed), and one thing that struck me was the shape of the rotaries. I recall SP used to have some german Diesel-Hydraulic locomotives that had a very similar profile to these units.

Here's the question -- anyone remember when these plows were built, and is the resemblance between the SP locomotives and the plows just a coincidence, or was there some recycling activity in the past?
