As I remember (great name for a soap opera) it's in two segments because on the road to tearing it
up some inconsiderate grain elevators wanted service (at about the split point). They moved some
decent sized cuts a few years ago, don't know how much recently but I'm sure they're not out looking for traffic (gets in the way of the scrap train).
