Another PE Yard Question

When I was a kid in the 50's we would frequently go to Los Angeles via the San Bernardino Freeway, pre I-10 (usually going to see the Hollywood Stars at Gilmore Field, or the Angels at Wrigley Field). Just prior (west) to Union Station there was a small freight yard wedged in between the freeway (north side) and other structures, or perhaps a hill. There were always wooden Pacific Electric boxcars and a caboose or two. Not sure if the yard and the cars were still in service at that time, but It always was the highlight of an otherwise boring trip.

Does anyone remember this small yard? I'd be interested in knowing its function and relation to other PE lines.
