Disrupt service? What service? In my opinion, the most ill conceived light rail operation in the United States. Essentially, from no place to nowhere with miles of 15mph running thru a moribund downtown to dodge drunks, the homeless, and non-English speaking people incapable of reading signs. They never made any accommodation to run to the airport nor an effort to bypass downtown. The downtown is still the age old belief that San Jose can have a viable downtown which started dying in 1954 and has not stopped. The list of San Jose politicians supporting light rail reads like the property tax roles of downtown. Furthermore, it is operated with the most hideous looking equipment they could find.

A power outage Tuesday night disrupted part of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority [VTA] light rail system , the San Jose Mercury News reports. The cause of the power problem is unknown. Here's a Peter Ehrlich view at Winchester station, one of those served by a bus bridge:

SAN JOSE -- A power outage has disrupted light rail service between the Bascom and Winchester stations, the Valley Transportation Authority tweeted late Tuesday.
It is unknown what caused the power outage, which was reported around 9:58 p.m., but a bus bridge has been put in place to help passengers travel to and from stations along the line, according to the agency.

Riders can expect delays. The agency did not know when normal service would be restored.

Check back for updates.
