WOW !!! Neat article. I had forgotton about the damage in Central Oregon. The 1964 flood destroyed the U.P.'s Grass Valley branch to Shaniko, OR. Further East, the brand new Interstate 84 bridge over the John Day River washed out, though the adjacent U.P. bridge survived due to U.P.'s insistance on it having a clear span over the river, without having a pier in the river bed as the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers had originally proposed.
