While we're on the subject, there's something I've often wondered - Beyond good ties and ballast, can the lighter rail (75 lb et al) be enhanced in any way longitudinally to handle heavier traffic and/or higher speeds? Say something like a carbon fiber or rubberized concrete/asphalt envelopment of the rail base?

Or am I way off?
