I think that this was the locomotive that was renumbered to 3422 in error. As a passenger Geep, it should have been renumbered into the 3000's along with the other passenger GP-9's. Somehow it was renumbered into the freight series (as 3422). It ran as such for some time on the Sacramento Daylight before the error was corrected.
