It wasn't a term of affection. It refers to their poor performance in commute service. Unlike the 5362 and 5365 that were used in commute service in the late 1950's, 4450 and 4451 didn't receive the electrical modifications that would've allowed faster acceleration and a higher top speed. That's why they were seldom used on anything other than non-peak hours trains.
