Passed through Butte late morning today. Saw the UP train from Dillon pulling into Silver Bow. Had 4 big GE's on it, but couldn't see how much train they had behind them. Still lots of tankers and auto racks and misc other carload freight around. Out on the BNSF line to Garrison, there was a Loram rail inspecting hi-rail truck out and a crew replacing some sticks of rail close to Butte. Further out towards Garrison, the rail looked to be welded. Was that relaid recently? Last trip that way 2 or 3 years ago I seem to remember it was all jointed.
In Silver Bow, there was a green and yellow non-dynamic GP38 doing some switching, and two gold and black Rarus/BAP Geep's standing by. I'm assuming the GP38 was a BAP unit. Anyone know what they haul these days? Anything come down the line from Anaconda?
Also there was no sight of the BNSF power. Does that train run out of Helena? Can't imagine it makes sense to with the line to GF severed..
