On a related note, you may be interested in knowing whatever "heritage" units show up in the area.

The Heritage Units website, www.heritageunits.com, allows you to track the "heritage" units of the various railroads around the U.S. and Canada.

For purposes of reporting, these include units such as the UP steam locomotives, NS heritage diesels, etc. They can also include classic cab units such as Doyle McCormack's NKP 190 PA; I used the website to track its movement from Portland to Spencer, N.C. for the "Streamliners at Spencer" event at the North Carolina Transportation Museum.
