Used to be, in the days of open - ended auto racks, that gangs of crooks would climb aboard Westbound Espee trains in El Paso with tools, work in air conditioned comfort, then climb off near Tucson or Yuma with brand new car stereos and tape decks. Part of the reason for Espee's Railroad Police caboose and combine / jail car.
