Strong Loonie means strong Canadian dollar. Years ago, the Canadians introduced a dollar coin which had an image of a loon (the bird kind, not the railfan kind) on one side. The coin, and the Canadian dollar in general, soon picked up the nickname. The fact that CN made record profits (and got a positive cover spin in the latest Railway Age) but didn't pay out bonuses is a familiar theme. Where I work, we've had great "money-making" and "efficient" quarters, and yet managed to miss whatever target numbers somebody set. Hence, no bonus.
