SPO lettering indicated owned not leased.
After about 1972 all new equipment and most leased equipment was left in original paint until after the first time through the Division or System Shop.
The Omaha orange color was a safety standard color on the grounds it was a high visability color. About 1972 this was changed due to cost and also the safety dept alleged there was not any subsantial data that Omaha orange contributed to safety.
