Odd Observations...

The UPRR currently has an E-W mainline with a connection to a one local train a day sub-division..
Years ago said sub-division crossed the ML to a small town north of the ML and there was a sort of wye and small yard to handle the traffic.
Years passed, the economy dwindled, and the x-ing was ripped out. Vestiges of the yard/wye remain. The UP uses the north part of the wye to store signal equipment, MOW equipment, ties and etc.
Last year, the UP got involved with a large concrete tie replacement program, and found itself using the south part of the wye to store the used concrete ties.
OOPs... according to an MOW dude (via radio), all of the stored concrete ties had to be crushed and removed from the site. "Not our property" he said. I'm guessing that UP Real Estate sold/leased/returned the property to a local business without telling the MOW/Operating Depts.
Easy spring/summer job for the equip operator who did the crushing/loading of the surplus ties.
