The naive part is suggesting actual rider convenience in accessing the platforms. Even before the tsa theater Union Station was heavy handed about entering track areas. As one of the pix makes clear, WMATA needs to be pushed back out of the way of the low numbered tracks to ease congestion. Also, the plans as shown don't seem to include expanding the tunnel to the South. Surely as the megalopolis expands more frequent service to Richmond and other Virginia points should happen along w/ electrification at least of the RF&P.
