Easy way to check whether UP is running in the Shasta area - around this time of day, check on Amtrak Coast Starlight status at Amtrak web site. Southbound should be somewhere around Klamath Falls in the mid-evening (8-9 PM) due for a 6AM arrival at Sacramento (all Pacific time). The Track-A-Train map is the easiest way to check, if it's working. Otherwise, check status between Klamath Falls OR and Redding CA. Just checked for tonight and #11 (southbound) is on time between those points. So UP is open.
