In San Francisco, it WAS uphill both ways - down down on hill and up the next, or over the hill to the next valley, and back again later). At least we had the bus to help a bit on some trips. Didn't live near the cable cars, and the streetcars didn't (and don't) climb hills so well.

Why does the "Uintah Basin" map look so much like it was drawn without much regard for topography?
