I recall that some of the San Jouquin Division was built under Central Pacific's name, as was the Altamont Pass / Niles Canyon line. Don't know who actually bought the Cal-P line between Sacramento & Oakland; if it was Espee then in a true CP / SP split-up EwePee would have had to go the hard way over Altamont Pass. Also, which entity ( SP or CP ) was the owner of record for the Lucin Cutoff ??? Maybe EwePee would have had to use the original route around the North side of Great Salt Lake !?!
