Kinda reminds me of Chicago a decade or so ago. A contractor was drilling in a branch of the Chicago River and drilled through the top of one of Chicago's old 1890's freight tunnels (which are supposed to be well marked, record wise). Water did what water does... sought its own level. Flooded the basements of multiple buildings in the Loop; early quit for lots of us, and a hassle to commute home, since Metra wasn't prepared for a mid-afternoon commute.
