Even the Taylor Roundhouse cat died from cancer, at a time when they lost about 6 guys in a row from the paint shop in about as many months from cancer back about 78-79(?)......
There were and still are some dirty and dangerous jobs out there, and railroading, especially in the "Good Old" days, was one of them. It wasn't a plot, it was what folks knew at the time, and it was wrong.
And, there is still a toxic site there today, where the old tie pile once burned for a month, and where everything bad you could think of had been just dumped for about 40 years, or so.
These guys are probably using used PCB oils from old transformers, which is a great weed killer, but not very good for humans. They made the mistake of using this for dust abatement on rural roads, too. Not smart.
Ah the nostalgia, so doesn't it just make you yearn for the "Good Old" days???
