At one time or the other there were/are two turns. The Atwater Local worked strictly up and back
and a second turn switched the Madera Industrial Park. On some days though the Atwater did both
and I guess it would depend on seasonal traffic levels. Adding the shoving platform would allow
the Turn to get to the Industrial Park without swapping ends or having the brakeman hang off a
moving car for two miles, nice touch.
