On average it takes about 5 minutes to open and close the bridge. At this time of year I see about 1-2 boats a week. Things like greasing and repairs are done by the maintenance crew. Uor job is to pay attention for boats calling for openings, which 95% of the time is via marine radio. Other times it's by phone or horn signal (looooooong-short). Other than that, we keep the bridge house tidy and........ well so long as we accomplish the foregoing, my bosses really don't mind what else we may do up there.
Gotta cook somehow.....
And yes, the view is awesome...
