I've been in the railfan/model railroading hobby for over 40 years and have encountered fans and modelers all over the country. Regrettably, based on those encounters and Internet commentary, it seems the hobby has more than its share of fans who are overtly hostile towards African-Americans, Latinos, gays and women. However, to date, I never came across anything like this. I suppose there is no reason that Jews would be exempt from such hatred.
Both of my parents were born in Germany. My mother was in Germany during Kristalnaacht (Night of the Broken Glass) when Nazis vandalized synagogues and Jewish-owned businesses. Fortunately, her family saw the writing on the wall and fleed Germany. My father's family did the same.
However, I did have distant relatives who did not make it out in time. One actually survived Auschwtiz. I met him when I was a child. He still had his tattoo on them.
On the other side of things, 3 or 4 years ago, I attended the viewing for the father of a professional colleague who served in the US Army during World War II. Biographical information on display at the wake included his unit was among those which liberated the concentration camps.
This is not part of any "Holocaust Industry," just a tragic chapter in modern world history.
