Atherton and Menlo Park just want the line gone, period. IIRC, about 8 years ago someone in Menlo Park local govt. floated some insane plan to relocate the tracks along 101 and the bay edge "away from residential neighborhoods". Of course, their plan went right through East Palo Alto, which I guess doesn't have any residences under their thinking.
