Today would have been my Granfather's 114th birthday. He had a 46 year railroad career, 23 years with the Burlington, and 23 years with the SP in Oregon. Sacrificed his senority to come out West to join most of the family that did't remain in N.E. Colorado in 1942. Because of that, he bounced around as an operator all over the Siskiyou Line, and the Coos Bay Branch. He finally was able to land in Corvallis, where he finished his career as day trick operator in the old OC&E depot on Washington St. He died in 1965, 1 year short of retirement in the SP Hospital in San Francisco.
