Go ahead, try to pretend that living in a cage with no room to move is "better" than living in the open of their natural habitat.
Your statement is pretty much the same as saying that a GI who died in Vietnam did so to "protect our freedom".
As long as it isn't your life involved, you are pretty much good to go.
