Since nobody else has answered, I'll make a stab, but only as a fairly frequent observer on Cajon and Tehachapi. First, what you see on Cajon isn't exclusively GEVOs. It's maybe 98% recent GEs, but later 9-44CWs, ES44DCs and ES44AC C4s. However,, just the other day I did see an SD70ACe. Now and then there are other exceptions like earlier warbonnet 9-44CWs and foreign power.

On Tehachapi, it isn't really almost anything. It's still mainly GEs, but earlier 9-44CWs, both pumpkin and warbonnet, are more common. I've occasionally seen SD75s and SD70MACs, along with Citirail leasers and a little more foreign power, but SD70ACes are very rare, and I've never seen an AC4400.

I don't know why this is.
