The La Selva Bridge – Old & New

A Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway’s passenger train crosses the old La Selva Bridge for the last time on its journey along the Pacific Coast from Santa Cruz to Watsonville at sunset. After this final crossing the bridge was put out of service and in August of 2014 demolition of the structure commenced. In early February 2015 the construction of the new replacement La Selva Bridge completed.

The Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway’s F9A SC 1101 poses on the new La Selva Bridge during the Regional Transportation Commission’s completion ceremony on February 26, 2015. With the completion of the new structure freight and passenger trains with be able to service Santa Cruz again.
