I heard about the derailment this morning just as I was tieing-up from the nightyard job. Dropped by to look at the mess on the way home.
BNSF signal maintainer told me that the trucker was coming out of the Pacific Grinding Wheel site, headed east back to State street. Was probably lost since the are no food companys in that industrial area. Might have missed the turn at 116th to go to Winco Foods, so drove north on State to turn around.
The train was headed north. After hitting the trailer and pushing the mangled remains, my guess is that the lead unit derailed on the out of service switch (frog removed) that is just past the crossing. I hope the 50MPH speed restriction that has been on the switch for months will be lifted after all is cleaned up.
