During the Second World War, a special electrified railroad was constructed of second-hand rail cars as well as many second-hand rails, parts, and power supplies.
Times were tough during WWII and rationing was the order of the day.
A railroad was needed to transport thousands of workers--24 hours a day--- from Emeryville,CA to the big Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond.
It was built by the U.S. Maritime Commission and operated by sub-contractor KEY SYSTEM...
For well over 60+ years, these films have been withheld from the general public for reasons unknown. There is some thought that possibly they were still labeled "Classified"... We'll never be sure!
NOW, they are available in vivid color for all to see and decide for themselves. It is truly "about high time" ...
