What a shame that the film industry missed an opportunity to put a public spotlight on a growing problem in our country when people trespass on railroad property. They seem so concerned with galvanizing safety procedures on the set, but are missing a larger opportunity to talk about everyday safety around trains.
Sadly, every day, people get hit and injured and killed on railroad property and this would have been a opportune moment for the film industry to align themselves with Operation Lifesaver to disseminate that message to the public, rather than just promoting a safety message within their own industry. Not that what they are doing isn't valuable, but the legacy of Sarah Jones could easily be used for a greater good.
The railroad professionals of the nation, myself included, who have an unfortunate front-row-seat to these tragedies, would appreciate it if the film industry would use their mighty resources to communicate this message to the largely clueless public.
