If it was heading north, it could be headed for Portland. Siemens is currently delivering the latest order of S70 cars for TriMet's MAX light rail system. I live in northwest Gresham, in sight of the Ruby Junction MAX shop complex, and this is where the cars get delivered.
TriMet ordered 18 S70s, numbered in the 500 series, to expand their fleet for the September 2015 opening of the Orange Line between downtown Portland and the northern Clackamas County suburb of Milwaukie.
The Orange Line includes a new crossing of the Willamette River that has a ROW shared with the Portland Streetcar, an at-grade diamond crossing of the Oregon Pacific RR next to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, and parallel running with UP'S former SP Portland-Eugene main through SE Portland and with Portland & Western's former SP Westside/Tillamook Branch through Milwaukie.
The new cars will join the existing MAX fleet that includes 26 100-series Bombardier cars from the original 1986 Eastside route (now the Blue Line); 52 200-series Siemens SD600s from the 1998 Westside line (Blue Line) and the 2001 Airport (Red Line) extension; 27 300-series Siemens SD660s from the 2004 Interstate (Yellow Line) opening; and 22 400-series Siemens S70s from the 2009 I-205 (Green Line) opening.
