Oregon a "red state"? While it's true that there are more square miles of "red" than "blue" the population in Oregon is so skewed towards the Portland Metro area and the Willamette Valley that this state has been solidly Democratic since the 1980s.

The reality is that the Amtrak Cascades trains aren't well patronized, cost a lot of money...and there's only so much money around. The Dems are also cutting school funding and numerous other programs as well. If you think Oregon hates trains, explain why the Portland metro area has lots of light rail and Streetcar and even the pathetic WES Commuter Rail train, but it cut bus service serving far, far more riders. Say "train" and you can't get people to shut up. Even if it means having just one train a day, serving one route, the trains are so much more politically popular than say a bus network that would serve dozens more people throughout the day, and on weekends, and more destinations.
