ATSF 3751 trip to San Diego: places to stay in LA

Any recommendations for a reasonably-priced (<$100/night)place to stay within walking distance or a short taxi ride from LAUPT?
Years ago when I came down to LA for CRC and NARP meetings we'd gather at the New Otani Hotel. That's nearly 25 years ago! Haven't stayed in LA since the Let's Travel Tours' Parker-Peavine trip of 1985.
