When I was in college our college radio station phone number was 666-6666. The fact that this was at a Catholic university made for a few wry jokes, but the number was a pain for another reason. Every time a little kid played with a phone we got the call. And then there was the day a dialer in Texas started sending us local calls, one after the other.
That was fun for a while but got old. We finally kept one lady on the line, called the trouble board and they tracked it down in twenty minutes or so.
This was when long distance wasn't cheap:
"Where are you calling from ma'am?"
"Dallas... Where is this?"
"San Francisco."
"Oh mah Gawd!" Click
