Royal Gorge War

The Denver & Rio Grande Western's “Hanging Bridge” and the Royal Gorge suspension bridge both loom ahead of our train. The "hanging bridge was built by the Santa Fe during the time of "The Royal Gorge War" and became the D&RGW's only later.

Major historical events with far reaching significance to Colorado and the nation's transportation system happened here in the 1870s.
