Nobody hurt...... the good news.
Older cars and volatile Bakken crude.... not too bad, only ten cars burning, others pulled away.
Maybe this is why BNSF has implemented that surcharge?
These unfortunate incidents show that the sooner the rules for degassing, better reporting and tracking, and the new tank cars are implemented, the better for the public in general.
It's going to cost the industry more for degassing this stuff down to a safer level of volatility for shipment in intrastate or interstate commerce, as it being required. But, it's going to cost the rr's more as the rules to reduce the speeds of these shipments is going to require more investment in climbing tracks on grades, more controlled sidings, and even triple tracking, if the industry is to maintain fluidity and velocity of the railroads.
So the costs the rr's are passing on to this class of shipper would seem to make sense and be "reasonable" charges.
