Salem Oregon Amtrak Exhibit Train

All aboard! Amtrak Train Days, with family-friendly, interactive activities, arrives in Salem on Saturday, May 16.
In previous years, Amtrak has celebrated National Train Day for one day. This year, in addition to moving from the Salem train depot to Riverfront Park, it is going to be several days, with an exhibit train rolling from town to town, said Marketing Manager Martin Tijmes.
"This is going to be a day of festivities," Tijmes said. "We are rolling in the Amtrak Exhibit Train all the way from Chicago. We've got bands, a radio station, food trucks, the carousel ... lots of action and excitement."
Salem is one of a few selected stops — the only stop in Oregon — that will receive the Amtrak Exhibit Train, which is like a museum on wheels, Tijmes said. "You can tour the train and see the past, present and future of Amtrak. It's a very hands-on experience. People can touch buttons and feel what it is like to ride the train."
The event also will feature The Amtrak Experience, a large, walk-through structure featuring informational panels about the dining experience, seating arrangements and more, said Tijmes.
