This past Friday, myself and my friend Mike Repp headed down to the Toledo line west of Corvallis.
We caught the eastbound Toledo Hauler as the crew arrived at Toledo around 9am - after doubling their train over they headed east with 46 cars - mostly loads except for the cut of empty chip cars on the tail end. We caught them across the
Yaquina River as the train neared Elk City.
It was a very leisurely pace, taking nearly 8 hours to travel the 65 or so miles from Toledo to just outside Albany where they were re-crewed.
With some additional time, we explored the area around Summit. With permission from the property owner, we checked out the area around the horseshoe curve below Summit where the route is climbing on a 2.58% grade. Recent clear cutting has opened up a few shots. I will share a few of those in a future post.
