Stadler Rail plans to open U.S. factory
The European rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail, best known for its articulated self-propelled railcars, has announced that it plan to open a U.S. manufacturing facility.
In a German-language news release about a $100 million sale of additional railcars for operation in Texas (Fort Worth-DFW), the company noted that, to comply with "buy American" provisions, it plans to open a U.S. facility. The news release said that the site of that facility had not yet been determined.
Stadler is headquartered in Switzerland but has manufacturing facilities in several other European countries.

The FLIRT railcars for Texas will be diesel-electric. However, Stadler also offers straight-electric railcars for both mainline and light rail operations. Stadler also offers several models of small (primarily industrial) switching locomotives -- and could offer versions of these in the U.S.
