Bill,

The Washington & Idaho Railway with the help of Bennett Lumber performed repairs on the line and reopened it earlier this year. Turning the line over to Bennett had been talked about but for now the W&I will continue to own and operate the line. Operations are on an as needed basis, though it sounds like business has been steady since reopening, with trains running once or twice a week between Palouse and the mill.

South of Palouse things have change drastically since last year. The last train to Moscow left in mid-August 2014, and the line has been out of service Pullman to Moscow ever since. The state of Washington (the owner of the line) has declared everything south of Fallon “not needed for future rail service” and is looking into what to do with it, options that include abandonment. Fallon to Pullman is being used for car storage, but unless a new customer can be found for the old Wilson spur in Moscow trains will never run through Pullman to Moscow again. Cherish those pictures that you got south of Fallon, these were of some of the last runs!
