It has been brought to my attention off list, that the grade to the NE of Helena may have been graded by the Montana Railroad but no rails laid. It was to head over to the Missouri River (pre-Canyon Ferry Dam) and then go to Lombard, where they did have a grade up Sixteen Mile Canyon (pre-Milwaukee Road) to the mines.
